Amelia Earhart Park, located in Hialeah's northern extremities, immediately south of Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, is a large metropolitan outdoor sports and leisure area with a long history and is a fantastic spot for the entire family.
The 515-acre park features a soccer complex with four small fields, a petting zoo, a disc golf course, bike routes, sand volleyball courts, an island playground, and a massive “bark park” for the dogs. It's also a one-of-a-kind watersports resort, with numerous lakes and a state-of-the-art wakeboard park with courses and coaching for riders of all abilities. With so much open green space, it's also the ideal park for an afternoon stroll down meandering trails beneath trees and around lakes, or simply sprawling on a picnic blanket on the grass.
Amelia Earhart Park, which opened in 1980, stands on land that was formerly an undeveloped part of a decades-old Naval Air Station. Amelia Earhart, the successful female aviator who flew independently across the Atlantic Ocean, took off from the airfield immediately north of the park in 1937 on her ill-fated last endeavor to fly around the world. The park was named for the trailblazing, boundary-breaking pilot.
Watersports for the entire family are available at Amelia Earhart Park's 90-acre freshwater lake. Visitors may enjoy everything from cable and boat wakeboarding to wake surfing, waterskiing, knee boarding, and paddle boarding at the Miami Watersports Complex. This watersports facility has two full-size cables and one tower cable, so both beginners and expert riders may benefit from the assistance of wakeboarding instructors riding alongside to help develop their abilities and technique.
The Bill Graham Farm Village, a real farm model where visitors may view horses, cows, and sheep, will be a hit with the kids. Visitors may also get up close and personal with the animals at the petting zoo, buy at the farm store, walk through genuine agriculture fields, and visit the neighboring bug museum.
Kids will also enjoy exploring Tom Sawyer's Play Island, a fort-style treehouse intended for children aged 2 to 12 that is completely accessible for all-inclusive play. Climbers, spinners, slides, balancing beams, swings, and even musical instruments for your children to play with will keep them entertained for hours.
Finally, the park's newest addition, the Soccer 5 mini-soccer complex, is as entertaining as it is functional. It features cutting-edge soccer facilities for both youngsters and adults, including enclosed 4G turf fields.
Do you want to spend the day competing outdoors? Grab your mountain bike and explore the park's eight miles of single-track and fire road biking trails. These routes are free to use and have secret climbs, downhills, and banked bends for beginner, intermediate, and experienced bikers.
If you don't have your own bike, Genesis Mountain Bike Rentals on-site is available every weekend from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bike rentals are $25 for one and a half hours, $30 for 2 hours, and $35 for 3 hours.
If you brought your pet, take them to the five-acre dog park. There are different places for large and little dogs to run about in. There are also places for bathing and grooming dogs, as well as doggie swimming pools and an obstacle course.
Amelia Earhart Park can be found at 401 East 65th Street in Hialeah, Florida. The park is open everyday from sunrise to sunset, and the office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monday through Friday, parking is free, but weekends and holidays cost $7 per vehicle.
