Glenn H. Curtiss, an aviation pioneer, inventor, and property developer, created the city of Miami Springs in 1926. Miami Springs, located "in the heart of it all," is near to Miami International Airport and provides tourists with a look of Miami's tranquil side, with a great small-town atmosphere. Miami Springs was one of the state of Florida's earliest planned towns. Pueblo Revival architecture was used to construct homes and structures. One of the city's most respected examples of this architectural type is the restored Curtiss Mansion, which belonged to founder Glenn Curtiss. The mansion is a significant Miami landmark as well as an event location.
More historical sites may be found by traveling down the city's major highway, Curtiss Parkway. The Fair Haven Nursing Home is another large Pueblo Revival structure that once housed the Miami Springs Hotel Country Club.
Visit the Miami Springs Historical Society museum at Circle Park to learn about the area's aviation history.
In a structure leased from the City of Miami Springs, the Museum is constructing a new state-of-the-art facility. Despite its tiny size, the facility will allow us to hold rotating exhibits, community activities, and touring historical exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The American Institute of Architecture's OnePlus Program awarded us a grant to help us design the new facility. The OnePlus Program connects community needs with local architecture companies. A big global company, Perkins + Will Architecture, collaborated with us on the layout and drafting of plans for our new facility.
The Kellogg Room's "Spirit of the Radio" exhibition will allow guests to explore the history of Miami Springs via its architecture and people. The Shonberger Family funded the display, which was developed by IMAGOS Entertainment. Your Host, a disembodied "voice" originating from an ancient radio, will lead guests on a historical tour of the city from its beginnings to the present.
This presentation will take place in a recreation of one of the city's iconic Country Club Estates Hotel/Battlecreek Spa guest suites. To produce an engaging and instructive presentation, a range of audio/visual special effects such as projection overlay and virtual audio will be used.
