Ocean Drive is Miami's renowned strip, a bustling boulevard that runs along to the Atlantic Ocean and is surrounded with a great assortment of Art Deco buildings, cafés and restaurants, boutiques, boutique hotels, and it's fantastic sizzling nightlife...
This is the place to see and be seen, where anything goes, and where the finest time is spent when you just go with the flow and have no expectations.
Before midday, the mood is relaxed as people go out for cortaditos and café con leche, newspapers, and morning jogs.
The majority of the action then moves across the road, down the beach and Lummus Park, with cyclists and roller skaters patrolling the promenade and sunbathers enjoying yet another wonderful day in paradise...
The noise level, traffic, and boisterous environment increase as the day continues...
The lighting lights up and Ocean Drive transforms... Lamborghinis driving up and down... enormous margaritas... hot bodies... music from all genres, coming at you from all directions... loud, brash, and uniquely Miami…
Ocean Drive begins at the southern end of the island at South Pointe, just south of 1st Street, and then travels north along the Atlantic Ocean for a brief 15-block length.
If there is one thing that distinguishes Ocean Drive, it is the boutique, Art Deco-style hotels. In fact, a trip along Ocean Drive will reveal a plethora of them! The Marriott Stanton South Beach, located in Miami Beach's gorgeous South of Fifth (SoFi) area, is a premium beachfront hotel with colorful suites, spacious balconies, incredible views, a Starbucks, and Lolo's Surf Cantina for Mexican cuisine enthusiasts.
Looking for a taste of Miami's abundance? Book a stay at The Villa Casa Casuarina and live in luxury in what was formerly Gianni Versace's house. Today, the greatest service, enormous Italian marble bathrooms, a gold-clad pool, a magnificent rooftop lounge, and private watering spots may be found. Continue traveling north, and you'll come upon the Clevelander Hotel and the Hotel Breakwater South Beach, both of which promise to keep the party going all night. Finally, The Betsy Hotel is a must-stay. This beautiful hotel is noted for its glittering rooftop pool, which overlooks the ocean. Laurent Tourondel's LT Steak & Seafood is one of South Beach's best steak and seafood restaurants.
Dining on this renowned boulevard provides something for everyone, from sandwich shops and curbside cafes to romantic, star-studded Ocean Drive restaurants with views of the sea.
If you want to go out on a romantic date night, consider one of Ocean Drive's more premium restaurants. A Fish Called Avalon combines fresh seafood with five-star service and unrivaled seaside vistas, while Gianni's at The Villa Casuarina offers an exquisite Mediterranean feast like no other. Joe's Stone Crab and Smith & Wollensky are both within walking distance of Ocean Drive. Prime 112, a famous celebrity hangout and modern steakhouse, is noted for its excellent dry-aged beef, truffle lobster mac & cheese, and Kobe beef sliders. It provides A-list people watching, as do most venues on Ocean Drive.
There's much to do on Ocean Drive, from history and art appreciation to clubbing till the early hours of the morning. With a history going back to the 1920s, take a close look at the 800+ Art Deco architectural treasures that have earned the region a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. If you're interested in history, the Art Deco District Welcome Center on Ocean Drive provides self-guided audio tours that will teach you all you need to know about Miami Beach's Art Deco heritage. Just a few feet away, the LGBT Visitor Center at Old City Hall hosts a variety of cultural activities throughout the year to promote the LGBTQ community.
Of course, if you just want to have fun, Ocean Drive has much to offer. Spend the day on the sand at Lummus Park, located just off Ocean Drive's main strip. If you're in the South of Fifth neighborhood, go to Marjory Stoneman Douglas Beach Park and relax on the beach or take the kids to the playground. Head to the beach near 12th Street and Ocean Drive for a sample of the LGBT culture (right across the street from Palace Restaurant and Bar and its ever-popular drag brunch).
You may go partying or bar hopping up and down Ocean Drive at night, or mix the beach and club scene at Nikki Beach. Try your hand at Salsa dancing at Mango's Tropical Cafe for a really Miami experience. As previously said, the Clevelander, one of Miami's best party hotels, always guarantees a fantastic time. Proof? It hosts spectacular pool parties with top DJs and features nine bars, a C-Level Rooftop Terrace with private cabanas and waterfalls, the SPF4 Sun Deck, and a VIP terrace where the party lasts all night.
If you are not at the beach throughout the day, you can go shopping. While Ocean Drive is primarily packed with tourist stores, quirky boutiques, and bikini shops, Collins Avenue, only a block away, offers all of the designer retailers you could want.
Parking along Ocean Drive is best found in one of Miami Beach's garages. They are located at 7th and Collins Avenue, 5th and Alton Road, 13th and Collins Avenue, and 16th and Collins Avenue. There are other parking lots all around, stretching from South Pointe Park to Alton Road. On certain streets, metered street parking is available. Before you park, check sure you are not in a zone that is solely for residents. Lummus Park, 14th Street and Ocean Drive, and 5th Street and Ocean Drive all have public toilets.
